Traditional Mountaineering in the age of climate change · How mountaineering is changing…
Climate change is rapidly transforming the high mountains all over- and with them, traditional mountaineering.
Where glaciers once flowed all the way down to the valley floor, streams have long since taken over the area. Rising temperatures are altering the stability of mountain structures as permafrost recedes. Trails are often buried by mudslides following heavy rainfall and the energy supply of huts is coming under increasing pressure.
Bergauf Bergab follows the two climate experts and bookauthors Matthias Ballweg and Bertram Kloss on a classic alpine trip through the Ötztal Alps and gains a deep insight into their world of thoughts.
